Joana's Intentions For Classic WoW
Official Vanilla WoW is
coming back. When I heard that
the first time, I was most definitely in shock of the news. I realized
at that moment that I am going back to vanilla WoW once again, officially.
Joana is coming back!
My History with WoW
I started playing WoW during beta and leveling fast was something I was interested in after I got my first level 60 character (undead warlock). I found my speedrun love with the game as Blizzard released a brand new realm every 1.5 - 2 months. This allowed me to do fresh speedruns through the game with others on a continuous basis. I also felt that the 1.5 - 2 months was a great time span between speedruns of the game. It gave me time to recuperate and practice more to do the next one even faster. Also if you haven't seen the 1-60 vanilla WoW speedruns I've done, check them out!
For me the game decreased in overall fun with each expansion pack that came out. Once Cataclysm came out was when the game pretty much died for me. I had to rewrite my entire 1-60 leveling guide for all the Cataclysm changes. I had to do months of work giving that as a free update to all my members. Cataclysm was a cataclysm on my life. I lost interest in the game and started speed running other games like Trails HD, Starcraft 2 and Castlevania games while only working on retail WoW expansions for my in-game guide up until Mist of Pandaria expansion. Sadly, I never even played any expansion pack after MoP.
My thoughts on Classic WoW as it's own game
I personally think vanilla WoW is the best MMO ever made so far. It is a true game in a sense where you actually needed to put in some effort to get through the game while being rewarded tremendously throughout the journey at the same time. Facing elites one on one was very exciting for me to do during speedruns. Actually needing to "watch your back" was more important. Things were more dangerous, which made the game feel more intense. You simply needed more skill to overcome leveling faster and leveling safer.
I am extremely grateful they are bringing back classic WoW. It needed to be done, the game has too much energy behind it.
I hope Blizzard keeps Classic WoW nearly 100% Vanilla like. Toying with changes is risky I think. I can maybe understand graphical enhancements like weather. More emersion is always better for an MMO, right? Hopefully the challenging gameplay remains intact.
I also hope Blizzard releases a new server (realm) every couple of months or so. This is one of the things that made Vanilla WoW so much fun for everyone. Having all players start fresh at level 1 is a very cool experience. They can just combine old servers together to control populations if they need to. But this is something I would definitely like to see.
Also, I have always pondered how WoW would flourish if there were
no expansions of the game, but instead the expansions would be whole
separate games in and of themselves (on separate servers), and it's
finally starting to happen.
Goals I want to achieve with Classic WoW
I want to continue working on making my 1-60 Horde leveling guide the best it can be. Then I want to divert some time into making a 1-60 speed leveling guide for Alliance! Yep, I never made a vanilla Alliance guide before, but with Classic coming out and staying true for what it is forever will definitely motivate me to do that. I can do speedruns through Alliance zones, I think that will be a nice change of pace.
Other things I plan to implement is to cover all starting zones with speed leveling tactics. Possibly make some instance (dungeon) guides as well.
I also want to do a speed run with every character class, and then write all class leveling guide tips and advice.
I plan on letting people have the option to subscribe to a members area where they will have access to the in-game guide downloads and possibly other web guide content. I plan on continuously improving the in-game guides over time and the subscription to the members area helps support my time I put into the project.
In-Game Guide Programmer
I am starting to figure out how to get a good in-game mod programmer to work with me to help make a great in-game guide mod for Classic WoW once it comes out. If you have any in-sights on where to find this "person" at, please let me know. Or if you think you qualify, you might be able to work with me on this project. Just contact me to let me know.
Streaming on Twitch!
My twitch channel is currently twitch.tv/FuriousPaul, it has around 8k followers. I have mostly been streaming classic Castlevania speedruns for the past 4 years on the channel. When I start playing WoW, I will be changing my twitch name to twitch.tv/Joana_WoW. This will stay true to the name of my WoW character that many people recognize. Unfortunately the account twitch.tv/Joana is taken by someone who never uses the account. I tried sending them a msg, no response yet, oh well :(
I will try to stream my gameplay Live as much as possible, but if
there is any issues with that I will have to do what I did in the
past and show the video later.
Warm up on Private Server
Before classic WoW comes out I plan to "warm up" on a private server. To refresh my memory on the game while updating my Horde leveling guide in the process. Although I have until around the middle of 2018 until I can start playing Vanilla because I have a lot of template work to do for JoanasWorld.com first. Unfortunately Im not sure If I will be streaming a private server, so we might have to wait until Classic comes out until I start actually streaming. If I have enough time, I will start routing Alliance and make a guide for that while waiting for Classic to come out.
Race to 60 on Classic server launch
You heard that right. I plan to jump right on the first server that comes out. Now keep in mind, Vanilla WoW has been existing for over a decade and many players have mastered using my guide already to level fast. I have not touched WoW at all since 2013, and Vanilla since actual vanilla days. I might be in for some good competition.
Although I plan to go all out on this, as of January 2018 I am now on this Vanilla WoW
"speedrun/guide" project full time putting in around 12 hours a day,
6 days a week from here on out, so I will have plenty of time to
improve my current routes to crush my current PB/WR time of 4 days
and 20 hours.
Another thing is I remember how physically taxing doing speedruns through WoW were on my body. Doing a speedrun for 18 hours a day for a week's span can get a little physically draining at times. I hope my 12 year older body can still handle the 18 hour daily speedrun grinds again. I feel like I should be okay though?.
I can see myself putting years into Classic WoW, it sounds very
exciting and cant wait to see how all this pans out in the future.
Keep in touch with Joana
To stay updated on my future Classic WoW endeavors, please follow my Twitter or Facebook. You can also watch me on Twitch (for now) at twitch.tv/FuriousPaul. FuriousPaul is the gamer name I have been using since 2013 when I joined Twitch.tv. So that is the name I will always be using for Twitter and Facebook, but like I said above, my Twitch channel will change to Joana_WoW once I get back on it. Remember my true gamer name is FuriousPaul, while Joana is the name of my WoW character. Hope this clears up some confusion about the multiple names I have :)
